This is the Home Service Company after it closed in about 1970 in preparation to its move across the street and one block east to its second location. Urban Redevelopment was hitting Ilion. The Remington Arms Corp wanted Main Street cut off to the east in order to join its plant to the old Remington Typewriter (Remington Rand -Sperry Rand - Univac) building across Main St from it. The companies were completely separate, but "The Arms" bought "The Typewriter" building after Univac moved out. Notice that the big BEER sign had already been removed from the Home Service and moved to the new larger location, a former Loblaw's Super Market. The Sears Gas Station (pumped whatever gasoline brand that was available - no connection to Sears-Roebuck and long managed by Harold Hawks) had already been torn down. Urban Redevelopment finally took the second location and Marion Lindsay Whitney dba Home Service Company closed the store in 1978 (the 1978 beer license was the last) and sold the name to the owner of a small convenience store in the new IIion Mall.
